If you arrive at the southern Reina Sofia Airport, there are buses located outside the Arrivals Area which regularly leave the airport on three routes. Bus 341 runs to the central bus station in Santa Cruz. Bus 340 goes to the northern airport and Puerto de la Cruz, while bus number 487 runs to Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas. The public bus service on Tenerife is very good, but travleling by bus can be time consuming. Buses are called guagua in the local language. The public bus service, called TITSA, operates several routes throughout the island, with fares being very reasonable.

Taxis

Taxis are also readily available from outside the Arrivals Area to take you to any place on the island.

Taxi drivers on Tenerife generally have a good reputation for being honest and providing good service, but watch out for the few who are willing to take advantage of tourists, especially on trips to and from the airports. All taxis are metered, but for short trips, drivers often won't bother to put the meter on. The main taxi companies display their fixed rates between popular destinations. Taxis can also be privately hired for sightseeing and many offer planned itineraries covering the more popular attractions on the island.
Taxis in Tenerife are large and roomy with plenty of luggage space. A family of 4 including cases should manage comfortably in just one taxi.

Car Hire

By hiring a car in Tenerife you're providing yourself with a holiday of endless choices If you want to get away from the resorts and explore the island, it's well worth hiring a car to make the most of your time.you'll have the freedom to roam and explore the island. More importantly, you'll have the liberty to do so in your own time and at your own pace

Generally speaking, car hire on the island is very good value for money, cars tend to be less than 5 years old and petrol is considerably cheaper than in the UK. about 0.99c a Ltr

The TF1 and TF5 motorways are a fast and efficient way to get around most of the island
Move away from the motorways and you'll find good roads, well signposted and relatively traffic free which makes them a joy to drive on, except when you get stuck behind a banana truck when you'll have plenty of time to enjoy the scenery

If you are driving from the airport, take the TF-5 motorway, which will take you towards Santa Cruz and other destinations around the island.
